The upstream developers have replaced the "pswrite" PostScript output
device by the new "ps2write" already some years ago and recently they
have removed "pswrite" and all other "pswrite"-based output devices,
including "psgray".

Please use the "ps2write" device now.

Title:
ghostscript device psgray does not exist.

Status in “ghostscript” package in Ubuntu:
  Won't Fix

Bug description:
running the following up to version 13.04 used to work ok:
  pdf2ps -sDEVICE=psgray AFILE.pdf

on 13.10 I get the following error:

  Unknown device: psgray
  Unrecoverable error: undefined in .uninstallpagedevice
  Operand stack:
      defaultdevice

  --------------
  gs -h

does not include psgray or any other ps driver.

  According to http://www.gnu.org/software/ghostscript/devices.html

If the device you need is not listed, but does appear in the list below, you
will need to recompile Ghostscript.

so maybe you need to recompile enabling psgray etc.
