Halvor, as per http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/Product /optiplex-gx260 an update is available for your BIOS (A09). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BiosUpdate , does it change anything?
If not, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command: sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette . Thank you for your understanding. ** Tags added: bios-outdated-a09 ** This bug is no longer a duplicate of bug 946899 8086:2a02 [drm:i915_hangcheck_elapsed] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed... GPU hung ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/999326 Title: 8086:2562 graphics display error Status in “xserver-xorg-video-intel” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: I'm not a technical person. I've recently upgraded to 12.04 Then shortly after that I couldn't play videos. The players would either crash or not display the video, only the audio. I've filed two bug reports for vlc without getting anywhere so far. Now I just ran checkbox-gtk and I was told that the graphics deisplay test failed. Hopefully there lies the problem for all my recent system troubles. I'd like to mention one more symptom. Since this error thing appeared sometimes all cpu is used, which is not normal at all even though I have a very weak cpu. Xorg alone would consume 40% of the cpu. That's all I can think of. I suppose you will be able to locate the two previously filed vlc bug reports since there were some attachments to those that you might want to look into, Let me know if I need to do anything else. Perhaps this is a hardware error and there's nothing you can do (and no problem related to ubuntu/xubuntu), ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.04 Package: xorg 1:7.6+12ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.2.0-24.37-generic 3.2.14 Uname: Linux 3.2.0-24-generic i686 .tmp.unity.support.test.1: ApportVersion: 2.0.1-0ubuntu7 Architecture: i386 CheckboxCommand: gst_pipeline_test -t 2 'videotestsrc ! ffmpegcolorspace ! gconfvideosink' CheckboxData: X Error of failed request: BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation) Major opcode of failed request: 132 (XVideo) Minor opcode of failed request: 19 () Serial number of failed request: 58 Current serial number in output stream: 59 CheckboxTest: graphics/display CompizPlugins: No value set for `/apps/compiz-1/general/screen0/options/active_plugins' CompositorRunning: None CurrentDmesg: [ 948.044071] [drm:i915_hangcheck_elapsed] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed...
