You can update through the icon in the top right, it should have check for updates and clicking on that will open up update manager.
Updates being included in software centre is planned, but install not working is a bug, so I have moved this bug to the software centre package. ** Package changed: ubuntu => software-center (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to software-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/863395 Title: Ubuntu software center ubuntu 11.10 amd64 won't install most apps Status in “software-center” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Openshot being one of them, at least half the apps I have installed even from official repository I have had to drop to terminal to install at clicking the install button does nothing at all. And alien arena which did install from it won't launch. Not that I mind using the command line but the software center is an important piece to have working. Also I have to run updates through terminal as well.
