@RobT I've been seeing this behaviour too recently with big (maximized)
buffers with a lot of scrolling and switching terminals/windows.

Nvidia proprietary drivers, no SCIM (just US International keyboard with
English).

Have you ever found a cause for your intermittent freezes?

Title:
  gnome-terminal tends to lock up

Status in “gnome-terminal” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid
Status in Fedora:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: gnome-terminal
  Binary package hint: scim

gnome-terminal locks up occasionally when I have multiple tabs open.
By locking up, I mean gnome-terminal (including all tabs) gets back no
responses for keyboard input, just as if Ctrl-S were pressed on a
  virtual console.

I don't know how to reproduce it yet. But I've come across the problem
for several times now. I'll report back when I find a way to reproduce
  it.
