Appearance crashes while loading list of wallpapers

Bug description:
To reproduce, either enter the Appearance section of System Settings
or run 'gnome-control-center background' in a terminal. While loading
the list of wallpapers, the window will suddenly close.
Terminal output from running the program:

I also ran this program using Valgrind using the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Valgrind and attached the valgrind.log file
generated.
This is on Ubuntu 13.10, which was just upgraded from 13.04 today.
