Ubuntu global menu and top bar not working sometimes

Bug description:
Since I installed Ubuntu 13.10 I have some problems I did not have in all 6
months of using 13.04:
- these days I had to work quite much in GIMP. I discovered that the global
menu did not work in multiple ocasions or it was extremely-extremely slow. If
the menus did not open, I had to use ALT+F to open File and then with
LEFT/RIGHT keyboard keys to get to my menu (they all opened in the top left
place of the upper Ubuntu bar). I was in a hurry, I have no screenshots with
this.
- today, I got another bug: the complete top bar did not work. Nothing
was opening, I could not even open the shut down menu. I had to shut
down computer by pressing the hardware Power button to get the 4
options window (suspend/restart/etc.).
- just tried to see something in Software Center; got an empty window.
Maybe the attached screenshots are related, I get some of these since
I installed the new Ubuntu.
- I have set the Privacy not to record images. Guess what I found in
Dash? Images in Files area. Is it normal? (see screenshot)
Having this in mind, I really hope some solution can be found quite
fast, as these are blocking bugs. I cannot use my laptop if it works
like this. This is a clean install of the final Ubuntu 13.10 + all
updates to date.
