Christopher,

Since then i have done a clean install of newer ubuntu version and
different drivers. I'm currently running 13.10 with nouveau drivers and
bumblebee, on the same hardware.

I'm currently not experiencing any problems related to this bug.

Since this is my workstation, I can't go and install a development release.
I could see if I can install the nvidia blob in 13.10?

Let me know if that's worth anything to you.

Hugo.

Title:
no visual, lightdm and desktop do load

Status in “xorg” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
when starting ubuntu, plymouth briefly shows, then i get a black
  screen with a blinking cursor.

strange thing is, i do have a mouse pointer, and lightdm did load. i
can type my username and password blind, and judging by HD activity it
  does load the desktop.

still no visual, just a mouse pointer.

i go to the top right, click, and use the arrow keys to go up once,
press enter, and then space. Ubuntu shuts down normally.

a second boot goes through fine.

i thought it might be a grub setting, but can't find anything that does or
doesn't compromize xorg
