Craig Swenson, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development
release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xorg REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Thank you for your understanding.

Title:
Graphics crash on Ubuntu 13.10 with Nvidia 313.x

Status in “xorg” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
I don't know if this is an Xorg (1:7.7+1ubuntu4) or Nvidia issue, as
the problem has repeated when using the 304.x, 310.x and 313.x
  drivers.

The end result is either the screen going black, becoming largely
pixelated, or simply unresponsive. In all instances Xorg is using
100% of the cpu and I also see various migration/0 and migration/1
commands with nonphysical amounts of cpu usage (i.e. sum of all
processes > 100%). There doesn't seem to be any unique trigger that
causes the problem and it happens on a non-repeating schedule.
Sometimes I can work for several weeks without an issue and other
times it will require a hard reboot several times per day.

I don't know if it is related to the issue described in here,

  https://devtalk.nvidia.com/default/topic/537302/linux/both-screens-
  black-xorg-at-100-cpu-overflow-errors-in-xorg-0-log-nvidia-
  driver-310-14-quadro-fx/

  but the symptoms are similar.
