Paul Leszczynski, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .
If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report: apport-collect -p xorg REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER Thank you for your understanding. In most cases OpenGL wasn't working, the DE had problems (Unity wouldn't load, my screen would have only the background and any desktop icons; no launcher/tray/startbar etc.). I tried for literally days to scour Ubuntu forums for fixes, including opening CCSM, unity-tweak-tool, restarting unity, trying different drivers (both from Ubuntu software center AND from Nvidia's site). The driver installation went fine, except for the Nvidia website download, where I usually had a problem to the extent of the installer of the driver giving me an error somewhat like this: "You are currently running an X server. Please restart and/or close the X server to continue installation". I didn't really know what it meant, but i tried following forum advice and still could not get anything to work.
