matteo sisti sette, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .
If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report: apport-collect -p xorg REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER Thank you for your understanding. When the monitor is connected, I only use the external monitor. Usually, when I unplug the monitor, the screen switches automatically, i.e. the builtin screen turns on; when I replug the external monitor, the builtin screen turns off an the external monitor turns on. A few minutes ago I unplugged the external monitor, and the builtin screen became all white. I could see the mouse cursor on a white background and nothing else. The mouse cursor moved smoothly, but I could'nt do anything. Keystrokes such as tab, atl+tab, ctrl+alt+T (to open a terminal), Ctrl+Super+D, and the like, did absolutely nothing (or they do what they are supposed to do but I couldn't see it because the screen remained white. Replugging the monitor didn't fix the issue. When I plugged the monitor, the builtin screen would turn off, the external monitor would turn on but I could only see a white rectangle (probably of the same size as the laptop built in screen) on a black background, and the mouse cursor. Switching between virtual terminals (i.e. Ctrl+Alt+F1 and Ctrl+Alt+F7) worked, but wouldn't fix the issue. I had no other option than reboot (which I had to do from the F1 virtual terminal), obviously losing all my unsaved work because of such a stupid bug, when probably all programs were running fine but invisibly. Please tell me what can be done to force a "wake up" of the screen as a workaround so next time this happens at least I don't have to reboot and lose all my data. I think this is a REGRESSION, or at least I had never, ever seen this before in years of using ubuntu.
