Mats Karrman, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development
release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xorg-server REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Thank you for your understanding.

Title:
  X crash during browsing

Status in “xorg-server” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
Running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS with all updates on an acer TravelMate 660 including
Intel 82852/855GM graphics.
I'm experiencing repeated crashes of the display/X. I have seen the problem
during the past months (since I installed 10.4, in 8.4 there were no problems)
and I think always while browsing the same web-page (www.dn.se - a major
Swedish newspaper). Browsing other web pages works without problems.
What happens is that the screen goes mostly black, only containing some
traces of the boot-log messages and then after some flashing a dialog appears
that gives me some action alternatives; I have found none that really helps
except "run screen in low-resolution mode" that takes me back to the login
screen and then runs Ubuntu with the same resolution/colors but with decreased
graphics performance (e.g. Dreamchess cursor becomes painfully slow).
I did have some trouble during installation from the Desktop CD; the graphics
wasn't detected correctly so I had to pull some tweaks found on the Ubuntu
forum (I'm sorry I don't remember exactly what I did) to get things working.
  Xorg version: 1:7.5+5ubuntu1
  Firefox version: 3.6.6+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.10.04.1

I'm reporting this now to get a bug number; I will try using apport to
append information the next time the bug appears.
