Paddy Landau, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development
release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xorg-server REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Please note, given you already have done this in a prior release,
performing this on a release prior to Trusty would not be helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.

Title:
Switch user loses session and logs out

Status in “xorg-server” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: gdm

When using switch user, the original user gets logged out.

  More detail:
  - First user logs in.
  - "Switch user" -- login screen shows first user still logged in.
  - Second user logs in.
  - Second user logs out.
  - Login screen shows first user logged out. First user can log in again but
original session has been lost.

Error message in the GDM logs:

Window manager warning: Failed to read saved session file

/var/lib/gdm/.config/metacity/sessions/102269cdd64f9053f9128325589418062200000038330002.ms:
  Failed to open file

'/var/lib/gdm/.config/metacity/sessions/102269cdd64f9053f9128325589418062200000038330002.ms':
  No such file or directory

Canonical says, "when you switch user it creates a saved session, but
upon return that file is gone."

I have attached my logs from /var/log/gdm.
