Philipp Specht, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development
release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xorg-server REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Please note, given you already have done this in a prior release,
performing this on a release prior to Trusty would not be helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.

Title:
Dropdown menus occasionally do not show

Status in “xorg-server” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
Using both Metacity with Compositing and Compiz, occasionally a
dropdown menu does not get rendered. There is a workaround for each
window manager: Metacity with Compositing disabled does not show the
behavior described above, nor does Compiz with "Sync to VBlank"
  disabled.

After resetting all settings I could think of (both xorg.conf and
~/.nvidia-settings-rc) this led me to the conclusion that compositing
is, while not completely broken, at least flawed with the latest
nvidia-current. I would be happy to provide any information that might
be helpful, but cannot think of any logs, but if there is anything,
  let me know.

edit: Forgot to mention that this did not occur with 10.04 and the
256-series of the nvidia-driver. Upgrading to the nvidia-current
version from x-swat (at the time of writing 260.19.12-0ubuntu1~xup2)
does not fix the problem described above.

  Ubuntu 10.10
  Kernel 2.6.35-23-generic #36-Ubuntu x86_64
  nvidia-current 260.19.06-0ubuntu1
  metacity 1:2.30.2-0ubuntu1
  compiz 1:0.8.6-0ubuntu9.1
