tony addyman, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

The same monitor connected using D-Sub to a different PC (with Intel graphics) is detected correctly under 10.04, 10.10, 11.04 and 11.10. A Liyama 19" monitor is correctly detected on this second PC using 10.04, and is "Unknown" under 11.04. However, the correct 1280x1024 resolution is set.
