Gioele Barabucci, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't
been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development
release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xorg-server REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Please note, given that the information from the prior release is
already available, doing this on a release prior to the development one
would not be helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.

Title:
X crashes and goes back to login while the screensaver runs

Status in “xorg-server” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
While the (blank) screensaver runs X will randomly crash, quitting the
session and going back to the login manager.

These crashes are random but far more likely to happen if Eclipse is
open: I can reproduce the crash 90% of the times with an open Eclipse
window, 30% of the times with no open windows.

The dmesg log is full of

      [ 368.351270] [drm:i915_hangcheck_elapsed] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer
elapsed... GPU hung
      [ 368.351275] render error detected, EIR: 0x00000000
      [ 368.351294] [drm:i915_do_wait_request] *ERROR* i915_do_wait_request
returns -5 (awaiting 15549 at 15524)
      [ 369.100021] [drm:i915_hangcheck_elapsed] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer
elapsed... GPU hung
      [ 369.100026] render error detected, EIR: 0x00000000
      [ 369.100046] [drm:i915_do_wait_request] *ERROR* i915_do_wait_request
returns -5 (awaiting 15552 at 15524)

There are other similar bug reports in launchpad but they all refer to
freezes. In my case I only see the X session crashing and going back
to GDM. After that I can log in fine and everything will work until
  the screensaver kicks in again.
