Răzvan Sandu, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development
release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xorg-server REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Please note, given that the information from the prior release is
already available, doing this on a release prior to the development one
would not be helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.

Title:
Desktop brightness minimal after upgrade 12.04 -> 12.10 on Acer Aspire
  One D270

Status in “xorg-server” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Hello,

On Acer Aspire One D270 netbook (please see full hardware
  configuration here http://h-node.org/notebooks/view/en/536/Aspire-
  One-D270--ZE7-/1/1/undef/undef/undef/undef/undef/undef/undef/D270),
desktop brightness is reduced to minimum after upgrading from 12.04 to
  12.10.

Netbook's video card is this: http://h-node.org/videocards/view/en/538
  /Intel-Corporation-Cedarview-Integrated-Graphics-Controller--rev-09-

The function keys for brightness (Fn + horizontal arrows) APPARENTLY
work: they DO present a brightness slider when pressed, but brightness
is not decreased/increased when sliding left-right.

The upgrade was done in an automatic way (via GUI update manager, who
offers a new version of Ubuntu).

After some Google searches, the fix presented here, comment no. 9
(adding some parameters to the kernel line while booting) applied,
  solving the problem: http://askubuntu.com/questions/3841/desktop-
  doesnt-remember-brightness-settings-after-a-reboot

This seems to be an old bug, still unsolved.

However, the correct video configuration should be automagically
detected at boot, WITHOUT manual user intervention and hacking (this
may be a serious stop for non-technical users buying an Ubuntu netbook
from consumer stores, especially since Acer is pretty popular).

  Best regards,
  Răzvan
