Olivier BOYER, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .
If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report: apport-collect -p xorg-server REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER Please note, given that the information from the prior release is already available, doing this on a release prior to the development one would not be helpful. Thank you for your understanding. I've re-installed ubuntu 9.10 on the same hardware (dell optiplex gx 280, with an ATI RV380 [Radeon X600] pci express card). When I open my session, netbook-launcher runs well. I can start applications from the menus, switch to another one with window-picker-applet. But, whenever I click on the go-home-applet, netbook-launcher rises to constant ~20% CPU usage. I can reproduce this bug every single time I run click on go-home-applet. If I pkill -9 netbook-launcher, a new process arrives, and cpu goes down. Some informations : $ uname -rm 2.6.31-14-generic i686 $ lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu 9.10 Release: 9.10 $ apt-cache policy netbook-launcher Installed: 2.1.12-0ubuntu3 Candidate: 2.1.12-0ubuntu3 Version table: *** 2.1.12-0ubuntu3 0 500 http://fr.archive.ubuntu.com karmic/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status $ apt-cache policy go-home-applet go-home-applet: Installed: 0.2.6-0ubuntu1 Candidate: 0.2.6-0ubuntu1 Version table: *** 0.2.6-0ubuntu1 0 500 http://fr.archive.ubuntu.com karmic/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status $ ls /etc/X11/xorg.conf* ls: cannot access /etc/X11/xorg.conf*: No such file or directory My packages are up to date (Nov 15 2009). Let me know if I can try anything or look up any logs. I spent quite a while around /var/log, $HOME/.xsession-errors, bugs in launchpad, but didn't see anything useful.
