e8johan, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com /daily-live/current/ .
If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report: apport-collect -p xserver-xorg-video-intel REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER Please note, given that the information from the prior release is already available, doing this on a release prior to the development one would not be helpful. Thank you for your understanding. Occassionally (several times a day) the external monitor goes blank, but the internal monitor shows that X keeps the resolution from the big screen. Unplugging and reattaching the external monitor restores the signal. dmsg tells me this: [26524.076841] ------------[ cut here ]------------ [26524.076934] WARNING: at /build/buildd/linux-3.8.0/drivers/gpu/drm/i915/intel_dp.c:1997 intel_dp_link_down+0x19c/0x1b0 [i915]() [26524.076938] Hardware name: MacBookPro8,1 [26524.076942] Modules linked in: mmc_block tcp_diag(F) inet_diag(F) hidp pci_stub vboxpci(OF) vboxnetadp(OF) vboxnetflt(OF) vboxdrv(OF) ipt_MASQUERADE(F) iptable_nat(F) nf_conntrack_ipv4(F) nf_defrag_ipv4(F) nf_nat_ipv4(F) nf_nat(F) nf_conntrack(F) ip_tables(F) x_tables(F) parport_pc(F) ppdev(F) bridge(F) stp(F) llc(F) bnep rfcomm binfmt_misc(F) coretemp kvm_intel kvm aesni_intel(F) aes_i586(F) xts(F) lrw(F) gf128mul(F) ablk_helper(F) cryptd(F) btusb bluetooth bcm5974 applesmc input_polldev joydev(F) uvcvideo videobuf2_vmalloc videobuf2_memops videobuf2_core videodev snd_hda_codec_hdmi snd_hda_codec_cirrus snd_hda_intel microcode(F) snd_hda_codec snd_hwdep(F) snd_pcm(F) snd_page_alloc(F) snd_seq_midi(F) snd_seq_midi_event(F) snd_rawmidi(F) apple_gmux lpc_ich snd_seq(F) snd_seq_device(F) snd_timer(F) snd(F) soundcore(F) mei apple_bl arc4(F) b43 mac_hid bcma mac80211 cfg80211 ssb lp(F) parport(F) usb_storage(F) hid_microsoft hid_generic i915 hid_apple firewire_ohci firewire_core i2c_algo_bit sdhci_pci crc_itu_t(F) drm_kms_helper sdhci tg3 drm ptp usbhid pps_core hid video(F) [26524.077093] Pid: 1455, comm: Xorg Tainted: GF W O 3.8.0-29-generic #42-Ubuntu [26524.077097] Call Trace: [26524.077119] [<c104a692>] warn_slowpath_common+0x72/0xa0 [26524.077158] [<f867dffc>] ? intel_dp_link_down+0x19c/0x1b0 [i915] [26524.077190] [<f867dffc>] ? intel_dp_link_down+0x19c/0x1b0 [i915] [26524.077199] [<c104a6e2>] warn_slowpath_null+0x22/0x30 [26524.077230] [<f867dffc>] intel_dp_link_down+0x19c/0x1b0 [i915] [26524.077265] [<f86808d7>] ? intel_dp_sink_dpms+0x47/0xa0 [i915] [26524.077299] [<f8680971>] intel_disable_dp+0x41/0x70 [i915] [26524.077333] [<f866e9d8>] ironlake_crtc_disable+0x5d8/0x7d0 [i915] [26524.077347] [<c114d5f7>] ? kmem_cache_free+0xc7/0x100 [26524.077356] [<c15254ed>] ? __kfree_skb+0x3d/0x90 [26524.077362] [<c15254ed>] ? __kfree_skb+0x3d/0x90 [26524.077369] [<c15254ed>] ? __kfree_skb+0x3d/0x90 [26524.077375] [<c15254ed>] ? __kfree_skb+0x3d/0x90 [26524.077409] [<f8672efe>] intel_crtc_update_dpms+0x5e/0x90 [i915] [26524.077440] [<f8672fc8>] intel_encoder_dpms+0x18/0x30 [i915] [26524.077500] [<f8675355>] intel_connector_dpms+0x35/0x60 [i915] [26524.077549] [<f85204e5>] drm_mode_obj_set_property_ioctl+0x385/0x3a0 [drm] [26524.077579] [<f8520537>] drm_mode_connector_property_set_ioctl+0x37/0x50 [drm] [26524.077605] [<f8520500>] ? drm_mode_obj_set_property_ioctl+0x3a0/0x3a0 [drm] [26524.077634] [<f8510eda>] drm_ioctl+0x42a/0x490 [drm] [26524.077652] [<f8520500>] ? drm_mode_obj_set_property_ioctl+0x3a0/0x3a0 [drm] [26524.077659] [<c115fc17>] ? do_sync_read+0x97/0xd0 [26524.077672] [<f8510ab0>] ? drm_copy_field+0x80/0x80 [drm] [26524.077676] [<c116fb50>] do_vfs_ioctl+0x80/0x580 [26524.077680] [<c11604c5>] ? vfs_read+0xe5/0x160 [26524.077684] [<c11700bb>] sys_ioctl+0x6b/0x80 [26524.077690] [<c161b24d>] sysenter_do_call+0x12/0x28 [26524.077693] ---[ end trace cdc5fd47e94b5868 ]--- The ubuntu-bug screen fails on me, so I guess I will have to report it manually like this.
