TommyBoy, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please test for this with the latest development release
of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com
/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xserver-xorg-video-ati REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Please note, given that the information from the prior release is
already available, doing this on a release prior to the development one
would not be helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.

Title:
[RV630] screen flickers/shimmers for half a second from side to side
  ATI Radeon 2600 HD

Status in X.org XServer - ATI gfx chipset driver:
  Confirmed
Status in “xserver-xorg-video-ati” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: xorg

This can be reproduced using compiz. Please enable the water effect
and put in onto a rain delay of 500 (shift+F9). In about 10 seconds
you should see the screen dancing around and flickering. Hard to
describe. Can't make screen cast as I also have an xorg slowdown
  issue.

Compiz is just a method to get this bug to show up again and again.
This is also happening when I am using notifications launching wine
and other general use of the desktop.

Also I am hearing a clicking sound from the screen and sometimes
getting the message that the screen source disappeared and just
reconnected also the screen is going blank sometimes.
