Michael Dundas, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .
If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report: apport-collect -p xserver-xorg-video-ati REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER Please note, given that the information from the prior release is already available, doing this on a release prior to the development one would not be helpful. Thank you for your understanding. An IBMThinkpad T42p, with an external monitor connected as well as the laptop screen. Recently, after the last Karmic update via the update manager, my laptop screen randomly just turns off. The attached screen is fine and if I depress Fn+F7 a few times (5) the screen will re-appear with all the apps, icons etc. untouched. If I am watching a video with say VLC, it will continue to run and you can hear the sound. I have adjusted the screen saver and power management for both AC and battery power, turning off everything I can. Doesn't help. I have turned off gnome-power-manager via killall, still screen laptop will blank randomly. If however, I remove the power from the laptop (i.e.running on battery), then it stops, until I put the power back in, then eventually the laptop screen will blank again. So this could be apic or some other issue? $ lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu 9.10 Release: 9.10 $ apt-cache policy xorg xorg: Installed: 1:7.4+3ubuntu10 Candidate: 1:7.4+3ubuntu10 Version table: *** 1:7.4+3ubuntu10 0 500 http://mirror.csclub.uwaterloo.ca karmic-updates/main Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 1:7.4+3ubuntu7 0 500 http://mirror.csclub.uwaterloo.ca karmic/main Packages ProblemType: Bug Architecture: i386 Date: Mon May 3 18:43:28 2010 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.10 MachineType: IBM 23737XU Package: xorg 1:7.4+3ubuntu10 PccardctlIdent: Socket 0: no product info available Socket 1: no product info available PccardctlStatus: Socket 0: no card Socket 1: no card ProcCmdLine: root=UUID=bd192051-89cd-4372-8694-2f4972385635 ro quiet splash ProcEnviron: LANG=en_CA.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.31-21.59-generic RelatedPackageVersions: xserver-xorg 1:7.4+3ubuntu10 libgl1-mesa-glx 7.6.0-1ubuntu4 libdrm2 2.4.14-1ubuntu1 xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.9.0-1ubuntu2.1 xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:6.12.99+git20090929.7968e1fb-0ubuntu1 SourcePackage: xorg Uname: Linux 2.6.31-21-generic i686 dmi.bios.date: 10/13/2005 dmi.bios.vendor: IBM dmi.bios.version: 1RETDNWW (3.19 ) dmi.board.name: 23737XU dmi.board.vendor: IBM dmi.board.version: Not Available dmi.chassis.asset.tag: No Asset Information dmi.chassis.type: 10 dmi.chassis.vendor: IBM dmi.chassis.version: Not Available dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnIBM:bvr1RETDNWW(3.19):bd10/13/2005:svnIBM:pn23737XU:pvrThinkPadT42p:rvnIBM:rn23737XU:rvrNotAvailable:cvnIBM:ct10:cvrNotAvailable: dmi.product.name: 23737XU dmi.product.version: ThinkPad T42p dmi.sys.vendor: IBM fglrx: Not loaded system: distro: Ubuntu architecture: i686kernel: 2.6.31-21-generic --- Architecture: i386 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04 DkmsStatus: Lsusb: Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub MachineType: IBM 23737XU Package: xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:6.13.0-1ubuntu5 PackageArchitecture: i386 PccardctlIdent: Socket 0: no product info available Socket 1: no product info available PccardctlStatus: Socket 0: no card Socket 1: no card ProcCmdLine: root=UUID=bd192051-89cd-4372-8694-2f4972385635 ro quiet splash ProcEnviron: LANG=en_CA.utf8 SHELL=/bin/bash ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.32-22.33-generic 2.6.32.11+drm33.2 Tags: lucid lucid Uname: Linux 2.6.32-22-generic i686 UserGroups: dmi.bios.date: 10/13/2005 dmi.bios.vendor: IBM dmi.bios.version: 1RETDNWW (3.19 ) dmi.board.name: 23737XU dmi.board.vendor: IBM dmi.board.version: Not Available dmi.chassis.asset.tag: No Asset Information dmi.chassis.type: 10 dmi.chassis.vendor: IBM dmi.chassis.version: Not Available dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnIBM:bvr1RETDNWW(3.19):bd10/13/2005:svnIBM:pn23737XU:pvrThinkPadT42p:rvnIBM:rn23737XU:rvrNotAvailable:cvnIBM:ct10:cvrNotAvailable: dmi.product.name: 23737XU dmi.product.version: ThinkPad T42p dmi.sys.vendor: IBM system: distro: Ubuntu codename: lucid architecture: i686 kernel: 2.6.32-22-generic To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-ati/+bug/574829/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : [email protected] Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
