mrg, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please test for this with the latest development release
of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com
/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xserver-xorg-video-ati REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Please note, given that the information from the prior release is
already available, doing this on a release prior to the development one
would not be helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.

Title:
slow/lockup on window switching, displaying scrolling pixmaps, etc

Status in “xserver-xorg-video-ati” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-driver-ati

  Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Lucid

  xserver-xorg-driver-ati 6.13.0-1
  possibly: xserver-xorg 7.5-5
  window manager: KDE 4.4.2
  This bug is similar to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/568988 but is
NOT limited to compositing. The system will freeze for a second or two whether
compositing is on or off when certain user interface functions are called. Xorg
CPU usage is 100% and takes priority from other system processes. The mouse
will not respond and if audio is playing it will stutter.
User interface functions affected are: window switching (changing focus),
window open, scroll frame, viewing an image
Functions NOT affected: window minimize/maximize, desktop cube, present
windows, most effects
This bug occurred in previous ubuntu version 9.10 but was fixed with the
workaround:
  Option "MigrationHeuristic" "greedy" in xorg.conf
This option no longer has any effect.

These options improve scrolling speed/smoothness on GTK based applications
only.
          Option "EXANoUploadToScreen" "1"
          Option "EXANoDownloadFromScreen" "1"
