Markus Naeher, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .
If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report: apport-collect -p xserver-xorg-video-ati REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER Please note, given that the information from the prior release is already available, doing this on a release prior to the development one would not be helpful. Thank you for your understanding. Up to Karmic, it was fine. Symptom 1: When trying to switch to the TTYs using Ctrl-Alt-F1..F6, seemingly nothing happens except that the keyboard and mouse are disconnected from the X server. After Alt-F7, they are connected again. Bu the X server always stays on screen. This happens on the installed system as well as on the live system started from the Desktop CD's (I tried Ubuntu and Kubuntu). Symptom 2: After logging off of my KDE session and logging back on, the desktop effects are gone and cann not be reactivated until the computer is shut down and started again. Even restarting without power off does not help. I don't know if the presence of the unused NVIDIA 8200 graphics adapter matters. But as it is on-board, I cannot remove it. It is unused because this special graphics chip is known to cause lots of trouble with Linux.
