PM, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity
in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so,
could you please test for this with the latest development release of
Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-
live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xserver-xorg-video-ati REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Please note, given that the information from the prior release is
already available, doing this on a release prior to the development one
would not be helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.

Title:
Computer consistently gets unresponsive after switching from VTX to
  VT7 (driver RADEON, Chipset M10)

Status in “xserver-xorg-video-ati” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
I have an up to date (2010-27-05) ubuntu lucid. The computer gets
  unresponsive every time I try to switch to VT1 and VT7. It just hangs;
no keyboard or mouseinput(I can see the mouse arrow). This only
happens when I am logged in to "desktop" with graphical Xorg, never
from GDM. I have not tried to remote login via SSH.

I have had this problem since I first installed Ubuntu Lucid at the
release day. It it also consistent on the Ubuntu Live CD.

My computer is a centrino based laptop equipped with ATI Mobile 9700 (M11).
Everything else seems to work ok, including the boot splash.

Looking at Xorg logfile I can't see anything wrong.

I don't know how to debug this further, but can provide further
  information if some guides me.
