Jeremy Loffredo, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .
If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report: apport-collect -p xserver-xorg-video-ati REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER Please note, given that the information from the prior release is already available, doing this on a release prior to the development one would not be helpful. Thank you for your understanding. I did a hard reboot, as none of the typical key combos were working. On reboot, I was given the message "plymouth main process (###) killed by SEGV signal 1 This booted me into a root terminal. Exploring the logs I found a number of messages in multiple logs related to an Xorg segfault ( kern.log, messages, Xorg.failsafe.log, syslog) After reading a related bug item, I tried removing quiet splash from the boot config, but this did not work either. It looked like everything booted fine, but I only saw a black screen. The mouse was not present and the system did not seem to respond to key presses. Also was not given a login screen. My next step was to boot to a previous kernel, which worked.
