Wilson Mendonça da Penha Junior, this bug was reported a while ago and
there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this
is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest
development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xserver-xorg-video-ati REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Please note, given that the information from the prior release is
already available, doing this on a release prior to the development one
would not be helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.

Title:
Desktop very, very slow after upgrade to ubuntu 10.10

Status in “xserver-xorg-video-ati” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

I've working with ubuntu 10.04 so far without any big issue, doing
  fast and good,

But after I upgrade to ubuntu 10.10 Maverick it become crazy slow,
I've removed the ATI RADEON Driver, then installed it again and the
slow down has gone, but I was not able to enable 3D and I could not
play movies or even change my desktop effects, then after find for a
solution I got one that brings back my ATI Driver for ubuntu 10.04
into my ubuntu 10.10, then I was able to enable and run 3D,

Guess what, it got back the slow issue, now everything I call from
desktop just take a life to run, as I have seen int bug #544496 for
  lucid,

As I am getting the same on ubuntu 10.10 Maverick it is new for this
  new release

Thx in advance and I appreciate any help to fix this problem soon
