Erno Kuusela, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development
release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xserver-xorg-video-ati REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Please note, given that the information from the prior release is
already available, doing this on a release prior to the development one
would not be helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.

Title:
  vga monitor not detected

Status in “xserver-xorg-video-ati” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

  1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or
  System -> About Ubuntu.

  "You are using Ubuntu 10.10
                  - the Maverick Meerkat - released in October 2010 and
supported until April 2012."

  2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy
packagename' or by checking in Synaptic.

  Package: xserver-xorg-video-radeon
  Source: xserver-xorg-video-ati
  Version: 1:6.13.1-1ubuntu5

  3) What you expected to happen

I expected my (Samsung SyncMaster 1100p Plus) monitor to be detected
and X to know about display modes it can support.

  4) What happened instead

It shows up as "unknown" and I had to manually configure the modes
(which involved cvt/xrandr and gdm config files)
