Unfortunately, I sold my Radeon 6790 over a year ago and bought a video

Title:
Graphical corruption then black screen using an ATI Radeon 6790 card
  on boot

Status in X.org XServer - ATI gfx chipset driver:
  Fix Released
Status in “xserver-xorg-video-ati” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
When I try to boot from the Ubuntu 11.10 Beta instalation CD or try to
boot it once installed, The screen briefly displays pink tinted noise,
then goes to a black screen.

I am using an AMD Radeon 6790 Graphics card and I have had generally
similar problems wjhen using previous versions of Ubuntu or other
linux distributions when attempting to use the open source radeon
  drivers.

From reading the Feature Matrix on the Xorg website, it seems there should be
support with working KMS and 3d acceleration for this graphics card now:
  http://xorg.freedesktop.org/wiki/RadeonFeature

I am not sure where to begin trying to get more information to assist
further in debugging this problem, once it gets to the black screen,
there is nothing I can do other than reboot.
