Doug Bates, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please test for this with the latest development release
of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com
/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xserver-xorg-video-ati REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Please note, given that the information from the prior release is
already available, doing this on a release prior to the development one
would not be helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.

Title:
13.04beta runs on Live DVD but graphics crashes on install

Status in “xserver-xorg-video-ati” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
Having run the live 13.04 beta (downloaded 4 Mar, updated 5th) desktop
runs *beautifully* on [AMD] nee ATI Caicos [Radeon HD 6450] with
system graphics reported as 'Gallium 0.4 on AMD CAICOS', but after
install the system hangs at an overscanning (or blank colour) log-on
screen. Note: system installed with 'download propriety software'=no.

Properitry drivers then installed via 'safe mode'/reboot but staggers
along & nowhere near as smooth as the Live DVD (which was great with
all the 3D functionality/workspaces etc working perfectly)

*** note this ubuntu-bug report was generated after restarting in recovery
mode***
(because whatever driver was trying to load failed totally at log in screen
so I could not run U-B in that mode)

  I hope it helps anyway!
