Microphone Input has no sound - cant record

Bug description:
Binary package hint: pulseaudio
when I open the control panel for audio input I do not see any
activity on the bar-graph monitor, even when I put the gain to max.
This is for Natty, LiveCD daily 2011-04-20
On ubuntu 10.10 I can at least record input, but the input gets
chopped off (different bug). However on Natty I have no input sound
at all. Audio output seems to work okay.
