thom, thank you for providing the requested information. Given that the
xorg-edgers PPA would not provide an even newer version of nouveau, and
Trusty's nouveau 1.0.10 is well synced with upstreams
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/nouveau/xf86-video-nouveau/ , the issue you
are reporting is an upstream one. Could you please report this upstream
by following the instructions _verbatim_ at
http://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/Bugs/ ?
Please provide a direct URL to your post once you have made it so that
it may be tracked.
Thank you for your understanding.

Title:
10de:032c nouveau doesn't render items on lower third of desktop
Status in “xserver-xorg-video-nouveau” package in Ubuntu:
Triaged
Bug description:
On the desktop, items that are moved down to below 1/3 of the screen
disappear behind an "invisible horizon". It seems like although the
desktop and backdrop are rendered nicely full screen, the items on it
seem to be rendered to a smaller field and get clipped when passing
the "border". Resizing the desktop to another size and back again seem
to solve this issue.
WORKAROUND: NV34 (64MB) with laptop screen 1024x768, @60. Resizing and
then resizing back again seems to be the only "fix" without disabling
render acceleration.
WORKAROUND: Put the code below in a file, make it executable and put it in
"startup applications" in your desktop:
#!/bin/bash
xrandr --output LVDS-1 --mode 800x600 --panning 800x600
xrandr --output LVDS-1 --mode 1024x768 --panning 1024x768
