Paolo Amoroso, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .
If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report: apport-collect -p xserver-xorg-video-nouveau REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER Please note, given that the information from the prior release is already available, doing this on a release prior to the development one would not be helpful. Thank you for your understanding. Once, I happened to hear the drums sound played by the Unity login screen after boot. I am able to get a shell with Ctrl+Alt+Fn. I experienced the issue with the kernel version recorded by Apport for this bug, as well as earlier versions. When it happens, I am able to get a fully working system, with X and Unity running fine, by just rebooting. My PC has an Intel Core i5 CPU 760 @ 2.80GHz × 4 with 8GB of RAM, a 450GB hard disk, and an Nvidia Quadro 400 graphics card. I'm running 64 bit Ubuntu 12.10 with the Nouveau drivers. The attached Apport data was collected in a session activated by rebooting from a session in which the issue occurred.
