Brian A, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please test for this with the latest development release
of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com
/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xserver-xorg-video-nouveau REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Please note, given that the information from the prior release is
already available, doing this on a release prior to the development one
would not be helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.

Title:
nouveau drivers cause frequent lockups - "GPU Lockup"

Status in “xserver-xorg-video-nouveau” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
This is a brand-new machine with a new NVIDIA GT 630 card in it. The
system randomly locks up with 'GPU Lockup' displayed in dmesg.log.
Keys to kill the x-server do not work. Switching to a virtual terminal
(ALT+F1) does not work. System does not respond. Can SSH into the
machine, but even attempting to restart the X-server as root (or even
kill it) does no good. Only option is to force a reboot or hard reset.
This happens so frequently that this machine is nearly unusable.
Sometimes it will happen after 10 minutes, sometimes after an hour.

jockey-text does not show any restricted drivers available for this
system. I did try installing the NVIDIA drivers from apt-get, but I
get a segfault in Xorg with them. So I've reverted back to the nouveau
  drivers.
