Steve Brack, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com /daily-live/current/ .
If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report: apport-collect -p xserver-xorg-input-evdev REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER Please note, given that the information from the prior release is already available, doing this on a release prior to the development one would not be helpful. Thank you for your understanding. Problem started as soon as upgrade was complete. The mouse pointer is invisible everywhere on screen. Sometimes, when the region it's in requires a different pointer than the default arrow (pointing finger, I-beam, etc), it will be visible, and on-screen objects always react to the presence of the mouse pointer, even when it can't be seen. The mouse pointer has disappeared ever since I upgraded to Ubuntu 11.10. It's very frustrating that every attempt at using the mouse to navigate within this website or within the windowed environment is a matter of educated guesswork, since I can't see where I'm pointing the mouse. To my mind, describing the mouse pointer as invisible captures the elements of the problem in one word. It's not that it doesn't exist, for, like the invisible man, it still interacts with its surroundings, but, also like the invisible man, it can no longer be seen. The only time it becomes visible is when the mouse pointer changes from the arrow to another form.
