dsn0wman, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please test for this with the latest development release
of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com
/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xserver-xorg-input-synaptics REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Please note, given that the information from the prior release is
already available, doing this on a release prior to the development one
would not be helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.

Title:
Touchpad stops working after switching users

Status in “xserver-xorg-input-synaptics” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
The touchpad stops working after switching users. I am not sure if
this is the syaptics input, or X server.

  Description: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
  Release: 12.04

  xserver-xorg-input-synaptics:
    Installed: 1.5.99.902-0ubuntu5
    Candidate: 1.5.99.902-0ubuntu5
    Version table:
   *** 1.5.99.902-0ubuntu5 0
          500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise/main amd64 Packages
          100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

  xserver-xorg:
    Installed: 1:7.6+12ubuntu1
    Candidate: 1:7.6+12ubuntu1
    Version table:
   *** 1:7.6+12ubuntu1 0
          500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise/main amd64 Packages
          100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Expected behavior: I should be able to use the touchpad as a pointing device
after switching users
Actual behavior: After switching user the touchpad doesn't move the pointer
Workaround: "ctrl+alt+sysreq+k" to restart X server, then log back in and
touchpad works again.
