Tried to install Lubuntu 13.10, Linux Mint 16 XFCE or Cinnamon and had problems launching the installer due to distorted graphics. Linux Mint has compatibility mode that works fine for the installer. However after installing and rebooting I get the distorted graphics again. The text terminal (ALT+CTRL+F1) is more or less usable, but far from ideal.
The only to solve the problem for me was by using nomodeset in grub. The screen is offset to the right, there are artifacts and horizontal bars on the screen. Would it be possible to do two things in this bug: 1) Create a guide on the wiki explaining another workaround which explains how to either change the resolution (or installing the binary drivers from the Live CD without restarting). This will assure that people with this issue can check a verified document explaining how to get ubuntu installed on this hardware. 2) Get the default resolution for this machine to be 1280x800 instead of 1024x768 from the 10.04.1 CD 00:12.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: nVidia Corporation C67 [GeForce 7150M / nForce 630M] [10de:0531] (rev a2) Kernel driver in use: nouveau Kernel modules: nvidiafb, nouveau Workaround: Though the interface is not usable, you can still guide your mouse and go to the correct items. Go to System > Preferences > Monitors and change the default resolution of 1024x768 to 1280x800.
