Binary package hint: xrandr
When I plug in a VGA cable to my EEE PC (1000HA - dual boot windows xp,
ubuntu netbook remix) I have problems as outlined below. I've tried it
on two monitors, one with partial success:
1. plugged in to 1680x1050 flatscreen monitor. Display appears with a
resolution of 800x600. Changing the resolution through the monitor
settings application results in both laptop and external screen
flickering at about 2-3Hz and being unable to be read. I tried changing
the resolution with xrandr (xrandr --output VGA1 --auto) which overlaid
the laptop screen on to the external monitor. Trying to separate them
(xrandr --output VGA1 --left-of LVDS1 caused the same appearance as
above.
2. VGA connection to (I think 800x600) projector. Both screen flicker as
above at about 2-3Hz. As I was about to give a presentation I didn't
have time to play around with it, but switched to my back up plan (USB
on windows!).
Let me know if any logs/outputs would be useful.
