Title:
/dev/dsp locked up after resume from standby

Status in “alsa-driver” package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
It doesn't happen every time, but occasionally after resume from
suspend2RAM, my laptop's sound device loses its mind.

Symptoms: playing any audio using a user mode tool (ogg123, aplay,
exaile) just hangs. Restarting pulseaudio has no effect.

I have toggled everything in alsamixer, but all attempts to play audio
  still hang.

If I cat something to /dev/dsp as root, I get

  # cat /dev/urandom > /dev/dsp
bash: /dev/dsp: Device or resource busy

If I read from /dev/dsp, the output hangs for a while, after which I
  get

  # cat /dev/dsp
  cat: /dev/dsp: Input/output error

Ownership on the /dev/snd/* files seems correct, and lsof does not
  show /dev/dsp opened by anything.

  # fuser -v /dev/dsp* /dev/snd/* /dev/seq*
                       USER PID ACCESS COMMAND
  /dev/snd/controlC0: jtate 19341 F.... pulseaudio
  /dev/snd/pcmC0D0p: jtate 19341 F...m pulseaudio

If I try to rmmod snd_hda_intel, I get

  # rmmod snd_hda_intel
ERROR: Module snd_hda_intel is in use
