Indeed, I can't reproduce the issue with 13.10 (which also has an emacs
24.3). I guess this was somehow fixed between 24.2 and 24.3. Thanks for
the feedback anyway.

Title:
  auctex crashes emacs24

Status in “auctex” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
With auctex 11.87-1ubuntu1 and emacs 24.2+1-2ubuntu2, if I try to open a .tex
file, emacs get stuck: there is only a blank *scratch* buffer, and it is not
possible to launch any command, neither through the menu nor through keyboard.
Disabling user init file with -q doesn't help. The issue only concerns auctex
and emacs 24: emacs 23 is perfectly fine, as well as default TeX mode in
emacs24.
