Title:
Multi-monitor setup reverts back automatically after a few seconds
Status in “xorg” package in Ubuntu:
Expired
Bug description:
On my Dell Latitude D630 running Kubuntu 11.10 (Linux 3.0, Xorg
1.10.4), when cycling through multi-monitor set-ups either using
[Fn][F8] but also using the config tool) after some flickering it
changes to "only external monitor (internal monitor disabled)".
However, after 10 to 30 seconds the system starts to slow down and the
monitor setup reverts back to "clone" (I see the same screen on both
displays).
In /var/log/syslog, I can trace that behaviour (# marks comments):
# pressing Fn+F8 to change the monitor setup
[ 1109.036386] composite sync not supported
# message is repeated 30 times until timestamp 1119.174609 then the change
# is performed, but then 30 secs later, the system starts to slow down and
# I start to get the message again:
[ 1159.442640] composite sync not supported
# message is repeated 15 times until 1162.603256, during which the X.org
# setup is reverted to clone (I see the same screen on both displays)
In my /var/log/Xorg.0.log, I get similar results:
# pressing Fn+F8 to change the monitor setup

I also experience that behaviour when changing the monitor set-up
through the KDE control centre, however less frequenty.
