Hello,
I have installed the latest image about a month ago. Since then there was
only one freeze, but not with the same signature as before, so I guess this
is not related to the video driver anymore. I am happily using my notebook
now.

  Display and sound freezes every few days

Status in “xserver-xorg-video-ati” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Since I have upgraded to Ubuntu 12.04, my notebook freezes in every
  few days. If something is playing in a music player, that hangs also
  (as if the needle was jumping back continuously on an LP disk. When
  switching to fglrx, this problem does not show up (although I have not
  used fglrx long enough to be sure about this).
