It affects an essential hardware component (disk controller, built-in networking, video card, keyboard, mouse).
** Changed in: unity-greeter (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => High -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to unity-greeter in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1274980 Title: Unable to use keyboard at the login screen Status in “unity-greeter” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: After a fresh boot, I get to the login screen where I need to type my username/password to login but I cannot type as the keyboard doesn't work (the mouse does though). The workaround I found is to click on any menu item (like volume control) and go back to the username box, now the keyboard works. At first I thought it was because due to a pop-up from NM asking to confirm my wifi password but this doesn't always show up yet I always have the problem. NM pop-ups shouldn't happen on the login screen IMHO but that's for another LP. Not sure if that's related but I run lightdm with this: [SeatDefaults] allow-guest=false greeter-hide-users=true greeter-show-manual-login=true $ lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu Trusty Tahr (development branch) Release: 14.04 $ apt-cache policy unity-greeter unity-greeter: Installed: 14.04.2-0ubuntu2 Candidate: 14.04.2-0ubuntu2 Version table: *** 14.04.2-0ubuntu2 0 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ trusty/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.04 Package: network-manager 0.9.8.8-0ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.13.0-5.20-generic 3.13.0 Uname: Linux 3.13.0-5-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.13.2-0ubuntu2 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: Unity Date: Fri Jan 31 08:44:08 2014 InstallationDate: Installed on 2014-01-26 (4 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 14.04 LTS "Trusty Tahr" - Alpha amd64 (20140124) NetworkManager.state: [main] NetworkingEnabled=true WirelessEnabled=true WWANEnabled=true WimaxEnabled=true RfKill: 1: phy0: Wireless LAN Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: no SourcePackage: network-manager UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) modified.conffile..etc.NetworkManager.NetworkManager.conf: [modified] mtime.conffile..etc.NetworkManager.NetworkManager.conf: 2014-01-26T18:45:22.953602 nmcli-con: NAME UUID TYPE TIMESTAMP TIMESTAMP-REAL AUTOCONNECT READONLY DBUS-PATH Wired connection 1 124acb71-824e-4e83-8a20-b05c7eb900ca 802-3-ethernet 1391175617 Fri 31 Jan 2014 08:40:17 AM EST yes no /org/freedesktop/NetworkManager/Settings/2 OpenWrt5 869128ee-b4b6-4bc7-980f-c0165b596508 802-11-wireless 1391175792 Fri 31 Jan 2014 08:43:12 AM EST yes no /org/freedesktop/NetworkManager/Settings/1 OpenWrt 280293db-0f99-4e36-9cca-58a7cc80c517 802-11-wireless 1391038150 Wed 29 Jan 2014 06:29:10 PM EST yes no /org/freedesktop/NetworkManager/Settings/0 nmcli-dev: DEVICE TYPE STATE DBUS-PATH wlan0 802-11-wireless connected /org/freedesktop/NetworkManager/Devices/2 eth0 802-3-ethernet unavailable /org/freedesktop/NetworkManager/Devices/0 nmcli-nm: RUNNING VERSION STATE NET-ENABLED WIFI-HARDWARE WIFI WWAN-HARDWARE WWAN running 0.9.8.8 connected enabled enabled enabled enabled disabled To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity-greeter/+bug/1274980/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : [email protected] Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
