Title:
display producer detection fails; resolution unsufficient

Status in “xorg-server” package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
  Ubuntu 12.10 (Xubuntu)

Since an update to the newest kernel for xubuntu I face two main
problems: the old Samsung tube display SyncMaster 957p, which until
then had been detected as <Samsung Electric Company 18"> in
<adjustments/hardware/display adjustment>, is no more recognised but
set to default at a lower resolution, although it still shows up in
the xfconf-file-editor in the <adjustments/others/display> section.

Probably related to that problem (I suppose) is the freezing of
<shutdown> that does no more neither switch off the screen nor the
computer. (See second bug report regarding <upstart>)
