Title:
Part or the entirety of the screen flickers when animating relatively
  large portion of the UI

Status in “xserver-xorg-video-ati” package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
Ubuntu 12.04 beta 2 running on Vaio VGN-CR353 (I'll provide more info
upon request, I just don't know what to include here).

My screen flickers when (but not always) animating a relatively large
portion of the screen such as switching workspace,
minimizing/unminimizing windows, showing the Activities menu in
GNOME3, dimming the background in favor of a dialog (such as the
authentication dialog), but *not* when scrolling a content of a
window. This problem has been around since the installation (in the
  Ubiquity's slideshow).
