[Thinkpad T420] bad resolution, no driver options outside of nouveau

Bug description:
This isn't specifically a Nouveau issue, though that's a factor... on
the T420 previous certifications, 10.10 is 2D only and 11.04 says
Proprietary drivers are required to get the full experience. However,
with 11.10, there are no proprietary drivers available according to
Jockey:

And so the only other option is nouveau, which looks horrible, and
only provides 1024x768 and 800x600 which looks bad on this display.
As 11.04 apparently had a working nVidia driver, this is a regression
of sorts (even though it's an issue with a proprietary driver).
