same here does not look like it has not enough "real" memory. I do also have 
around 1.7 GB of free RAM.
any way to make sure it really is a lightdm problem?

  Since today’s updates compiz does not load any more. When i try to log into 
unity-3d it quickly blinks with the following error message:
