Title:
12.04 update to 12.10 no keyboard or mouse response at loging screen
Status in “xserver-xorg-input-evdev” package in Ubuntu:
Expired
Bug description:
I decided to update a working Ubuntu 12.04 system to Ubuntu 13.04. Had
to take one step in between, via Ubuntu 12.10
After the update from 12.04 to 12.10 was finished the system restarted
and the login screen appeared. However, there was no response at my
typing or mouse movement. Keyboard and mouse are wireless Microsoft
keyboard with one common 2.4 GHz receiver. Connected a Dell USB
keyboard and noname USB mouse but still no keyboard nor mouse
response.
Rebooted the system, hit Del to enter bios, which worked great, so the
keyboard was still working.
Rebooted the system, hit Shift for Ubuntu boot options, and the menu
appeared. There where no options given for earlier kernels so I
decided to boot 12.10 with 3.2.0-36 generic pae.
At that login screen my keyboard and mouse did work so I choose to
reboot once again and give no options at the boot. The system booted
but again there was no keyboard or mouse working. I rebooted, with
shift, choose the generic pae as described above and the keyboard and
mouse did work. So I decided to run the upgrade to 13.04 this way, but
after finishing the update and the system reboot after appearing of
the login screen with 13.04 there was still no keyboard or mouse
working.
Rebooted once more, hit shift, choose Ubuntu 3,2,0-36 generic pae and
after booting the keyboard and mouse are working again.
After that I made a change to the boot settings having a default delay
of 20 seconds to be able to switch to the Ubuntu 3.2.0-36 generic pae
(with the same keyboard that does not work when I do not choose that
version) so I can work with the system right now.
I did read some messages about problems like this but there is no
solution available.
If I boot from a 12.10 live CD the keyboard and mouse do work, as they
did with the previously installed 12.04 lts
I have no clue how to solve this myself and I have no plans to do a
clean install on this system.
Thanks
