Title:
parts of window displayed in wrong place on desktop

Status in “xserver-xorg-video-nouveau” package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: xorg

On a Lucid development (beta) system, I rebooted into GDM with
external keyboard and mouse plugged in (via the same USB adaptor), and
external monitor *not* plugged in. Then after logging in via GDM (on
the laptop kbd, not using the external kbd, FWIW), I connected the
  external monitor.

As the attached screenshots show, on my virtual desktop #1, one
rectangular slice of one window is displayed clear across the screen.
I have no idea whether it is related to the use of the external
monitor or not (I have used this external monitor many times since I
upgraded to Lucid beta, and never seen this phenomenon before).

Other desktops appear to be fine (though the misdrawn section from
desktop #1 is still visible on them, it is just a ghost -- dragging
over it will erase it there).

On desktop #1, however, it's real. You can temporarily erase that
weird block in the upper right by dragging over it, but it will come
back as soon as the application (in this case Emacs) does redisplay
  draws.
