Specifying a mount point inhibits nautilus from listing the unmounted partitions. For example, my /etc/fstab included the following: UUID=C25CE7335CE72141 none ntfs noauto,nouser,ro 0 0 Through nautilus, I could mount this partition, create files, and delete them, as a regular user. Obviously, given the options, this is not desired behavior. Changing the line so that there was a defined mount point, as below, inhibits this behavior, so that a regular user does not see the partition listed in nautilus: UUID=C25CE7335CE72141 /etc/Gateway ntfs noauto,nouser,ro 0 0 As dual-boot configurations are common among Ubuntu users, this is likely to be a common occurrence.
