it is strange that the virtual master playback has mute at min volume
and master playback switch at the same time
-99999.dB mean -inf dB which is equalivent to the mute switch
the independent mute switch allow you to mute , and keep the volume
unchanged at unmuute
but mute at min volume mean no independent mute switch, you lost the
volume when mute by setting volume to min ,

Title:
[HP EliteBook 8760w, IDT 92HD81B1X5] automute when plugging in
headphones mutes master channel
Status in “alsa-driver” package in Ubuntu:
New
Bug description:
I am running kubuntu 13.10 on a hp 8760w laptop
lspci identifies the soundcard as
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family
High Definition Audio Controller (rev 04)
plugging in headphones causes the Master channel to drop to zero
rather than the PCM channel, also when a new sound source connects to
pulse-audio the pcm and master volumes switch. (I am using the kde
mixer applet - to check the channels)
