No sound at all after upgrade from 13.10 disk to latest Kernel

Bug description:
After the installation of 13.10 sound worked, same for booting from
CD. After upgrade to latest update the sound stopped working, only
hissing comes out od the speaker.
I tried to boot with the old kernel, no change. Sound still broken.
Tried the alsa reload thing mentioned, "sudo alsa force-reload". Sound
still broken.
Tried audacity, you can go directly configure the port. No sound.
It is a new ASUS Z87-A board with on bord sound.
